WBESC board prepares for start of school

The Western Buckeye Educational Service Center Governing Board took care of personnel and other items in preparation for the upcoming school year during its August meeting on Wednesday.
The board extended one-year limited contracts to Robert Miller, attendance officer; Kerry Shelton, as a one-on-one paraprofessional at Grover Hill Elementary School; Becky Diglia, as curriculum coordinator at Lincolnview Local Schools; Prima Hertel as a paraprofessional at Lincolnview, and to Jessica Cartwright (162 days), Kayla Dukes (189 days) and Britny Keister (189 days) as paraprofessionals in the Allen County ESC system.
The board also extended a one-year limited contract to Ashley Shepherd as 21st Century Grant, Family & Children First and OCTF Grant coordinator.
The also approved the following Fiscal Year 2014 grant awards and appropriations: Parent Mentor, $25,000; Alternative School, $49,989; and 21st Century, $150,000.
The board also learned that Sherray Elliott’s 2013-2014 school year assignment would be as a classroom paraprofessional at Grover Hill School. She was previously a one-on-one paraprofessional.
The following substitute rates were also approved: substitute teacher, $80 a day; substitute teacher at the Student Resource Center, $85 per day; substitute secretary/clerical worker, $70 per day; and substitute paraprofessionals, $65 a day.
The board also authorized a out-of-state trip to Chicago, Ill., for Cathy Bonifas and Michelle Hanneman to attend the ASHA National Convention on November 14-16.
Also on Wednesday, the Western Buckeye board approved bus and van driver lists, the substitute teacher and paraprofessional aide list and authorized Superintendent Brian Gerber to approve future additions, if all requirements are met.
The next meeting of the Western Buckeye ESC Governing Board will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, at the Van Wert ESC office.
