Photo exhibit call for entries
We are down to only a few days left with our current exhibit, featuring painter/printmaker Douglas Fiely, large format charcoal artist Chelsea Younkman and glassblower Matthew Paskiet. This exhibit ends August 24 so stop in soon or the wonderful two-dimensional drawings, prints, paintings and sparkling art glass will be gone.
Call for entries! Our 36th Annual Photography Exhibit will be opening on Oct. 5. All photographs are to be submitted by Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15. If you are a member of the Wassenberg Art Center or have exhibited with us in the not-too-distant past you should have received your prospectus in the mail by now. However! You do not have to be a member and entry forms are available by download on our website. Some pleasant surprises may surface with this show, so keep watch on your paper, our website and your mail.
Matt and I will be ready to accept artwork for this year’s Van Wert County Fair competition on this Sunday, Aug. 25, 1-5 p.m. at the fairgrounds. If you require any additional information regarding entering your work, please visit the Van Wert County Fair website at www.vanwertcountyfair.com or call the fair office at: 419.238.9270.
Thank you to Paul Svabik for sponsoring a mobile display unit that will help keep our new exhibit space flexible for varying needs of the community! Matt Mt. Castle, manager of Sherwin Williams paint is providing the paint required to spruce up the armory garage. Also, thank you to Jim Collins of Collins Fine Foods for feeding us and keeping us in great spirits many times. (More on these kind and generous souls to come!)

We’d like to extend another big thank you to our part-time summer help. With all the uproar we’ve been a bit short-staffed these days, so we employed the help of two high school students and one high school graduate through the Workforce Reinvestment Act. Jaylan Hofacker, Kyler Ashbaugh and Brooke Fuerst of Van Wert have been great helping maintain our current facility, painting at the armory, working as docents on the weekend and assisting summer camp instructor, Diane Bendele. Thank you. We wish you the best of luck in the coming school year.
