LIMA — The Van Wert golf team traveled to Tamarac golf course in Lima to take on the Elida Bulldogs in a Western Buckeye League match-up and lost in a fairly tight match, 172-177.

Elida golfer Nate Cellar led the way with a 37, followed closely by Trent Cutlip with a 38. Van Wert scores included Justin Price 43, Brandon Hernandez 44, Lucas Etzler 44, Adam Jurczyk 46, Alex Miller 51, and Nick Etter 52.

“As a team we were up one stroke through seven holes and end up losing by five strokes,” Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood explained. “Elida gained four strokes on hole number 9 alone.

“We have to finish in order to be successful,” added Coach Hood.

The Van Wert golfers drop to 1-1 in the WBL and 1-2 overall, while Elida moves to 2-0. The Cougars return to action in Lima Thursday at Shawnee Country Club.
