Cougar golfers get win over Kenton

The Cougar golf team defended its home turf on Monday, shooting a season low 169 against the visiting Kenton Wildcats, who fired a 176.

Van Wert was led by senior Lucas Etzler, who shot 40 to tie Anthony McKee of Kenton for medalist honors. The rest of the Cougar scores were as follows: Adam Jurczyk, 41; Justin Price, 43; Alex Miller, 45; Jacob Covey, 47; and Brandon Hernandez, 49.

“We had a nice team effort today; our scoring was very balanced,” said Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood.

In the junior varsity match, Van Wert’s Nick Etter shot 48, followed by Gabe Rollins at 55 and Carter Eikenbary at 58.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday at St. Marys. The Cougars move to 2-2 in the Western Buckeye League, while Kenton drops to 1-1.
