VW v-ball team downs Delphos St. John’s

The Van Wert Cougars were back in action on Monday night on their home court for the third match of the season, this one a non-league match-up with Delphos St. John’s. Van Wert defeated the Blue Jays in four games by scores of 25-22, 25-12, 21-25 and 26-17.

The Cougar junior varsity team also won, 25-20 and 25-21, while the freshman team was also victorious in two, 25-12 and 25-13.

With the wins, the Van Wert JVs are now 3-0, while the freshmen are 2-0 on the season.

Varsity stats are as follows:

Serving – Riley Jones, 22/22, with two aces; and Taylor Doidge, 19/20 with one ace.

Hitting – Alexa Dunlap, nine kills; and Alexis Dowdy and Doidge, six kills each.

Defensive digs – Doidge led the team.

Setting – Amanda Coplin, 15 assists; and Jones, 14 assists.

The Cougars return to action tonight when they travel to Kalida for a non-league match.
