Teen dies in county motorcycle accident

A former Van Wert County man was killed early Saturday in a motorcycle accident that occurred near the intersection of Slane and Hessian roads.

According to Sheriff Thomas Riggenbach, Nicholas A. Mason, 18, of North Pole, Alaska, was southbound on Slane Road when he lost control of his motorcycle near the Hessian Road intersection.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene when a caller advised that a motorcycle had wrecked in that area.

Mason was transported from the scene by Samaritan Medical Services helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was later pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s department was assisted at the accident scene by the Grover Hill Fire and EMS Department, Van Wert Fire Department EMS and the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
