College Board honors 12 VWHS students

Van Wert High School news

The College Board has recognized 12 students at Van Wert High School because of their exceptional achievement on the Advanced Placement exams during the 2012-13 school year.

One student has been recognized with the highest AP honor as a Scholar with Distinction. That honor is granted to students who score 3 or higher on five or more exams. Scott Turner, the son of Glenn and Chris Turner, earned an average score of 4.0 on five exams.

Two students received the AP Scholar with Honor Award, which recognizes a student who received scores of 3.25 or higher on four or more AP exams. Those recognized were Alex Bair, son of Phillip and Shelly Bair; and Nikolas Wolford, son of Shannon Stegaman.

Nine students received the AP Scholar Award, which is granted to students who have received scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. Those students are Sarah Aurand, daughter of Gary Aurand; Melissa Bono, daughter of Jim and Denise Bono; Amanda Couts, daughter of Jeffrey and Tami Couts; Ashlee Dowdy, daughter of Mike and Kim Dowdy; Jacey Eikenbary, daughter of Thad and Laura Eikenbary; and Joe Hurless, son of Mark and Cindy Hurless.

The Advanced Placement Program at Van Wert High School offers students the opportunity to take challenging college level courses while still in high school. Van Wert High School offers six Advanced Placement courses, including chemistry, English language, English literature, calculus, psychology and government.  A total of 104 Advanced Placement tests were given at Van Wert High School during the May 2013 testing period.
