Lady Cougs lose to Celina in tennis

CELINA — The Van Wert girls’ tennis team was edged by Celina, 3-2, in a Western Buckeye League match played Monday at Celina.
Van Wert’s No. 1 singles player, Ali Moreland, defeated Lady Bulldog Kalie Gardner, 6-1, 7-5, while No. 3 Cougar singles player, Claire Butler, also won, 6-1, 6-2, against Celina’s Brooke Sutter.
Both Van Wert doubles teams lost, with the No. 1 team of Hannah Stemen and Sydney Felger losing to Sabrina Smith and Leah Zuercher 6-4, 6-0, and the No. 2 team of Tabatha Tennie and Kali Agler defeated by Maddy Cline and Nicole Elston 6-0, 6-2.
It all came down to the No. 2 singles match, where Sydney Dull was edged by Sasha Jenkins 6-4, 6-3.
The the loss, the Cougars fall to 5-5 overall and 5-2 in league play, while Celina is now 10-5 overall and 6-1 in the WBL.
