Marlins do well at sectional tourney

WAPAKONETA – The YMCA Van Wert Marlins’ Age 12 and Under swimmers traveled to Wapakoneta to compete in the Northwest Ohio Section 2 Championship on Saturday. There are two sectionals, with Section 1 being held at Eastern Community YMCA in the city of Oregon.

Competing in the two sectionals were a total of 700 plus swimmers from 18 northwest Ohio YMCAs. Out of both sectionals, the top five finishers from each event automatically qualify, then the next 10 fastest times overall qualify at-large to advance to the Northwest Ohio League Championships held at Fremont on March 19-20.

The Marlins had 10 Age 12 & under swimmers qualify to compete next week. Coach Schumm was very proud of the overall effort by all of the swimmers competing.  Qualifying in all of their events were: Emma Pollock (5), Andrew Henkaline (4), Katie McVaigh (5), Addison Henkaline (5) and Sam Easley (5). Easley not only qualified, but finished first in all five of his events. Also qualifying were: Daniel Miller (2), Robert Germann (1), Anna Henkaline (1) and Austin Lucas (2).  Risa Pollock will serve as an alternate in two events. Details are listed below.

8 & Under Girls: Emma Pollock – second 100 IM; third 25 Freestyle; fourth 50 Freestyle; fifth 25 Butterfly and eighth 25 Backstroke.

8 & Under Boys: Daniel Miller – fourth 25 stroke; sixth 100 IM; 14th 25 Butterfly; 15th 50 Freestyle and 21st 25 Freestyle. Andrew Henkaline – third 25 Backstroke; sixth 50 Freestyle and 25 Freestyle; ninth 25 Butterfly.

9-10 Girls: Risa Pollock – 13th 50 Backstroke; 15th 50 Freestyle; 16th 200 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke; 19th 100 IM.
