Cougar golfers 9th at area golf tourney
Van Wert golf news
CELINA — Saturday morning was a beautiful day for golf and 16 teams enjoyed the competition and hospitality of the Mercer County Elks Golf Course and the family of the late Jordan. The tournament honors the former Marion Local golfer, who was killed in an auto accident in 2007.
A unique feature of the tournament is that the Moeller family and local Elks award two $500 scholarships. One of the scholarships goes to the senior with the lowest score, while the other is drawn from a hat. Brian Schatzer of Parkway was the senior with the lowest score, while Bryce Eck of Sidney Lehman had his name drawn for the other scholarship.
Medalist for the tournament was Carter Bowman of St. Marys, who shot a two-under-par 70. Brandon Hernandez was the Cougars’ low man with an 18-hole score of 82, as Van Wert finished near the middle of the pack in ninth place with a score of 358. Other Cougar scores are as follows: Alex Miller, 90; Justin Price, 90; Nick Etter, 96; and Adam Jurczyk, 98.
Versailles won the tournament with a score of 327, while Celina was a stroke behind at 328 and Parkway was third at 331.
The Cougars have their final Western Buckeye League dual match with Wapakoneta at home today and then will prepare for Friday’s WBL tournament at Shawnee Country Club.
