Knights kick off a new year
By Tanner Skelton
With two weeks in the books, students are ready for the success that lies ahead of them academically and athletically this school year. The summer ended as Crestview seniors made a clean sweep of the Junior Fair Royalty with Daniel Joseph being crowned king and Leah Lichtensteiger being crowned queen. “In 1991, my mom was Van Wert County Junior Fair Queen, and it has always been somewhat of a dream of mine to follow in her footsteps,” said Joseph. “I knew it would be awesome to wear the sash, and when I finally won, it was a huge honor!”

On the first day of school, each student received a laptop, which he or she will use throughout the year. The laptops eliminate the need for computer labs and give students the ability to do a variety of different in-class assignments they previously couldn’t do. “Having a laptop of my own makes it easier to transition from Wright State to Crestview as a post-secondary student,” said senior Chelsi Siefker. “And it allows the classrooms to be more interactive with the computer programs.” So far, the transition to personal computers has been smooth with few problems.
Crestview looks to continue its athletic success, as it does every year. The football team is now 2-1. Its only loss came last Friday to top regionally ranked Wayne Trace. The team is preparing for this week’s contest against Bluffton. Junior, Nathan Owens said, “We need to come together stronger as a unit and have a better attitude going into practices and also games,” when asked about what the team needs to do to recover from the loss. “It’s only one loss and we will learn from it,” said Owens.
The cross country team completed its fourth meet with a fourth place finish at the Eaton invitational Saturday. The team is still in the process of recovering from several injuries and has a positive outlook on the remainder of the season.
Many of the new changes students are experiencing already will certainly contribute to the usual success of the Knights. Students are working hard to make the best of what the year has to offer.
