Esten Marlin Fortney
Esten Marlin Fortney, 93, of Convoy, died at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Vancrest of Convoy.
He was born January 28, 1920, in Dixon, the son of the late Earl and Mabel Marguerite (Miller) Fortney. In 1944, he married Mary Alice (Grove) Fortney, who preceded him in death in 1972. On September 8, 1973, he married Betty L. (Taylor) Baumert Fortney, who died August 21, 2012.
Survivors include three children, Jack (Tracy) Fortney and Pamela (David) Herminghuysen, both of Van Wert, and Jill (David) Bauer of Orlando, Fla.; three stepchildren, Jack (Jeanette) Baumert of Fort Wayne, Ind., Carl (Linda) Baumert of Antwerp and Linda (Randy) McNamara of Payne; a brother, Arlo G. Fortney of Dixon; one daughter-in-law, Jill R. Fortney of Van Wert; two sisters-in-law, Mary Fortney of Van Wert and Sue Fortney of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; nine stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
A son, Jerry Gene Fortney; two stepsons; five brothers, Gene Fortney, Donald Fortney, Morgan Fortney, Harold B. Fortney and Vance Fortney; a sister, Helen Plumley; one brother-in-law, Dale Plumley; and two sisters-in-law, Mona Fortney and Ann Fortney, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, at Convoy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gregory Leigh officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.
Calling hours are from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
