Deadline approaches for vets’ bonus

The Van Wert County Veterans Service Office would like to remind all veterans who served during the period of August 2, 1990, to March 3, 1991 (Persian Gulf Theater of Operations or anywhere else in the world), that those who have not applied for the Ohio Veterans Bonus must do so prior to December 31.

Veterans who served during the period of March 19, 2003, to December 31, 2011, in the Iraq Theater of Operations or anywhere else in the world during these dates have until December 31, 2014, to apply.

Those who served starting October 7, 2001, to (no end date) in the Afghanistan Theater of Operations or anywhere else in the world can also apply for a bonus, with no end date at this time.

As of September 20, Van Wert County has submitted 187 applications and has received $149,952.15 in payments since the program began.

Veterans that have not applied for this state benefit should contact their local Veterans Service Office.

The Van Wert County Veterans Service Office is located in the Courthouse on East Main Street in Van Wert.
