Red Cross official earns regional award

A strong supporter of the Van Wert County Chapter of the American Red Cross was recently honored at the regional level for his work with disaster services.

Disaster Action Team Chairman Mark Klausing received the Disaster Preparedness and Response Award at the annual meeting of the American Red Cross of Northwest Ohio. The event was held September 19 in Perrysburg.
Klausing was one of two volunteers in the Northwest Ohio Region to receive the award, which honors a disaster volunteer who has made a measureable impact on the American Red Cross, community and clients served by the Red Cross.
In his role as DAT chairman, Klausing has forged valuable relationships with local first responders. He attends drills, makes sure someone is always there to respond to fire victims and helps with other Red Cross events beyond disaster services.
“Mark goes above and beyond the call to service to the Red Cross,” said Sandy Lane, Van Wert Red Cross community chapter executive. “His leadership with the Red Cross is crucial in making sure we as a Red Cross are ready to respond to local and regional disasters. We appreciate his service to our organization.”
In June, Klausing received the Clara Barton Award at the Van Wert Red Cross chapter level. The Clara Barton Award recognizes a volunteer who has displayed significant leadership and commitment to the Red Cross mission.
For his part, Klausing says he could not do what he does without the support of his local DAT responders.
“I would like to thank my Disaster Team for going above and beyond the call of duty to get this recognition,” Klausing said. “Without them this would not be possible. I also would like to thank the local community for their donations to help families in need.
“Last but not least, thanks to the local Emergency Responders for all they do and including the Red Cross in training with them so we all work together,” Klausing said.
