Cougar v-ball team downs Wapakoneta

WAPAKONETA The Van Wert Cougars were back in action on Tuesday as they traveled to Wapakoneta to take on the Lady Redskins in a Western Buckeye League volleyball contest. The Lady Cougars dominated the evening, earning a straight three-set victory by scores of 25-9, 25-21 and 25-15.
Van Wert is now 15-6 on the year and 5-3 in the WBL.
Varsity stats leaders include the following:
Serving – Amanda Coplin, 19/19 with two aces; Riley Jones, 17/17 with two aces.
Hitting – Taylor Doidge, seven kills; Alexa Dunlap, six kills.
Defensive digs – Dunlap, 16 digs; Claire Gamble, 13 digs.
Setting – Coplin, 11 assists.
The Van Wert junior varsity team also defeated Wapakoneta in three games: 25-16, 22-25 and 25-17.
The Cougars will be back in action on Thursday as they take on the St. Marys Roughriders in their final match of the regular season. The team would like to invite everyone out for the match, when it will recognize its four seniors: Gamble, Doidge, Cheyenne Handy and McKenna Merkle.
