36th Annual Photography Exhibit opens

The 36th Annual Wassenberg Art Center Photography exhibit opened with an evening reception this past Saturday. Awards were presented at 8 p.m. Over 130 photos were chosen by jurors to be included in this show. We wish to thank those who attended thank you and congratulate the award winners. Wassenberg Art Center juried exhibits are quite competitive so merely having entries accepted is an accomplishment. Regular exhibit hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 1-5 p.m. This exhibit will be on view through October 27 and many photographs are available for sale, framed and ready to add color to and decorate your homes. The art center is closed on Monday. This is the final exhibit to be housed in the Wassenberg home at 643 S. Washington St., Van Wert. The 36th Annual Wassenberg Photography Exhibit is brought to you by Citizen’s National Bank, the Van Wert County Foundation and the Wassenberg Camera Club.

Winners of awards in this years exhibit are as follows. Jodi Knoch of Wapakoneta won Best Charles Wassenberg Best of Show in Color, the Van Wert County Foundation award along with a First place in the animal category and a second place in plants. Best of Show, in black and white went to Cathy Huber of Lima. She was also awarded an honorable mention in the architecture category.

Chris Wilson won the Katy Mounts Color and Jodi Hattery was awarded the Wilbur Hartman in black and white with Rex Dolby capturing the Wilbur Hartman award for color.

First place winners are as follows.

Architecture: Herb Kaiser, Landscape: Spencer Cunningham, Night time: Barb Jewett, Plants: Jeff Dosek, Special Effects: John Stachera, Still Life: Elgarda McGee.

Chris Hattery’s photograph of interconnecting railways in a train hub won the John Flagg youth award in black and white, the Katy Mounts Award for black and white and a category honorable mention. His brother, Joshua won second place John Flagg award in color. Eric Falk won first place John Flagg award in color for his photo entitled “The Peace Tree”. Second place John Flagg award went to Chris Hattery. Remaining second place category awards are as follows: Architecture: John Stachera, Landscape: Denise McQuillan, Night time: Mary Gagnon, Portrait: Spencer Cunningham, Special Effects: William Hawkins, Still Life: Peter Harklau.

Honorable mentions from around the region were awarded to: Don Gagnon, Sharon Gibbs, Mary Gagnon, John Klein, Denise McQuillan, Eugene McQuillan, Nataley Hattery, Jon Ingleman, John Stachera, Jeff Doseck, Herb Kaiser, Casey Patterson, Jim Gabbard, Howard Holland, Eugene McQuillan, Beverly Rampe, and John Rausch.

We congratulate all of the photographers who entered the exhibit and encourage them to join us for the 37th Annual Wassenberg Photography Exhibit in our brand new location!

Just in time for Halloween, stop by starting next week as we feature unique sculptures created out of foam by the mysterious sculptor, Mr. E. The exhibit will start on Tuesday and continue through Oct 27.
