CHP to offer high-dose flu shots

Community Health Professionals of Van Wert is offering high-dose flu shots to seniors daily Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning this coming Monday at its 1159 Westwood Drive office.

The high-dose vaccine designed specifically for people 65 years and older, has four times the amount of antigen as a regular flu shot and is intended to give older people a stronger immune response and better protection against flu.

The CDC has approved high-dose flu vaccine for use in seniors only and is not recommended for those who have reacted negatively to the flu vaccine in the past.

Medicare Part B covers the high-dose vaccine.

CHP in Van Wert will only be offering high-dose flu shots this flu season. Children and Medicaid patients should contact their physician or Van Wert County Health Department for vaccinations.
