Jeffrey D. Smith

Jeffrey D. Smith, 52, of Van Wert, died at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born August 22, 1958, in Celina, the son of Dean and Pat (Harden) Smith, who both survive in Convoy. On March 28, 1991, he married Beverly (Crawford) Smith, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Smith worked at Federal-Mogul Corporation in Van Wert. He attended First Baptist Church in Van Wert.

In addition to his parents and wife, survivors include five children, Justin (Janine) Klutka of Louisville, Ky., Ashley (Jarred) Sawyer and Mackenzie Smith, both of Van Wert, Jordan (Jennifer) Klutka of Sterling, Va., and Kimberley (fiancé: Bryan Cox) Smith of Rossford; two brothers, Roger (Shelly) Smith and Dana (Bobbie) Smith, both of Van Wert; a sister, Shelley (Marty) Early of Liberty Center, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Joseph and Aaron Sawyer, and Harper Polsinelli.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 11, at First Baptist Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Steve Robinson officiating.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert.

Preferred memorials: In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mackenzie Smith Education Fund, care of US Bank, 818 S. Shannon St., Van Wert, OH 45891.
