CHP offering flu shots to seniors

Community Health Professionals information

Just a reminder that Community Health Professionals of Van Wert is offering flu shots to seniors daily Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at its 1159 Westwood Drive office.

High-dose vaccine designed specifically for people 65 years and older will be offered at first, and then regular flu shots will be available as well later this month.

The high dose shot has four times the amount of antigen as a regular flu shot and is intended to give older people a stronger immune response and better protection against flu.

The CDC has approved high-dose flu vaccine for use in seniors only and is not recommended for those who have reacted negatively to flu vaccine in the past. Medicare Part B covers both the high-dose and regular vaccines. The cost for a regular flu shot is $30 for individuals 18 years and older without Medicare.

Children and Medicaid patients should contact a physician or Van Wert County Health Department for vaccinations. For more information, call 419.238.9223.
