Wassenberg Camera Club News 3/9/11

The Camera Club will meet Thursday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at the Wassenberg Art Center on South Washington St.  Geometric Shapes will be the theme for competition in prints and slides.

Lines are a good source geometric shapes.  We can start with triangles, move to the quadrilaterals, and end up with all the polygons.  Then too, we can start with arcs, arbelos curves, crescents, ovals, ellipses, and end with the circle.

Moving to the solid shapes, we find the prisms, polyhedrons, toruses, cones, pyramids, cylinders, and spheres.

The trick now is to develop the eye to find these groups in real life.  Architecture and design will be good sources of both lines and solids.  Buildings, bridges, and towers will provide many such opportunities.  A great source for curves lies in the design of all types of vehicles, aircraft, and boats, and their parts.  Swimming pools also exhibit a variety of curves, not to mention the plant world with its stems, leaves and blossoms.

With all potential images that will no doubt be entered, it should be a great night of competition.
