VW County Health Dept. information
The Van Wert County Health Department has scheduled several clinics for children and adults to receive flu shots. The flu (influenza) vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older. The health department is located at 1179 Westwood Drive, Suite 300.
Walk-in clinics are being offered on November 6, November 13, and November 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Appointment-only clinics are being offered on November 4, November 20, and November 22, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., and on November 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Those wanting to participate must call the health department at 419.238.0808, extension 103 or 107, to schedule an appointment for these clinics.
The health department has several variations of flu vaccine available this year, including the quadrivalent flu vaccine, which contains antigens to protect against two A strains and two B strains of influenza.
The health department also has the high-dose vaccine designed specifically for people 65 years and older. This vaccine has four times the amount of antigen as a regular flu shot and is intended to give older people a stronger immune response and better protection against the flu.
The health department accepts most commercial insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid.
