Marlins compete at Wapakoneta meet

WAPAKONETA — On October 26, the Van Wert Marlins opened their winter season by traveling to Wapakoneta to compete in the Wapak YMCA Halloween Invitational.

The event is a large one, with most of the areas top swimmers competing. Emma Pollock brought home the team’s only first place finishes by taking the age 9-10 50-yard freestyle and butterfly races.

The Marlins will be back in action on Saturday, November, when they host Bucyrus Community YMCA at the Van Wert YMCA. Individual race results are as follows:

YMCA Marlins at Wapakoneta YMCA (all distances in yards)

9-10 Girls: Emma Pollock – first 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly; third 100 individual medley; fourth 50 breaststroke. Micah LaTurner – 20th 100 freestyle; 22nd 50 backstroke; 34th 50 freestyle.

9-10 Boys: Ian Rex – fifth 200 freestyle; eighth 50 backstroke; ninth 100 freestyle; 14th 50 freestyle.

11-12 Girls: Katie McVaigh – fifth 50 butterfly; sixth 200 freestyle; seventh 100 IM; eighth 50 freestyle. Risa Pollock – fifth 50 breaststroke; sixth 100 freestyle; 14th 200 IM; 19th 50 freestyle.

13-14 Boys: Aaron Stant – ninth 100 butterfly and 50 backstroke; 13th 100 freestyle; 16th 50 freestyle. Brendan Browning – fifth 100 freestyle.

15 & Over Boys:  Colton Deschner – third 100 breaststroke; eighth 100 freestyle; ninth 200 freestyle and 50 freestyle. Isaac Rager – second 100 breaststroke; seventh 50 freestyle; ninth 100 freestyle. Kory Schlatter – fourth 100 backstroke; seventh 500 freestyle; 10th 50 freestyle.
