C’view halts emergency tax collections

CONVOY – With increasing revenues coming in from the Robert G. Mone Power Plant, as well as the beginning of payments related to the Blue Creek Wind Farm, the Crestview Board of Education voted to suspend collections from the district’s emergency tax levy for the upcoming year.

The board approved a resolution to have Treasurer Laura Metzger director County Auditor Nancy Dixon and the County Tax Commission to not collect taxes from the emergency levy for 2014.

Administrative reports included an announcement by Elementary Principal Kathy Mollenkopf that the elementary school’s Fall Extravaganza will be this evening, and also noted that parent-teacher conferences will be held November 25-26 this year.

Middle School Principal Dave Bowen said parent-teacher conferences will also be November 25-26, while High School Principal Mike Biro talked about upcoming testing and the high school Scholastic Bowl team also won the Northwest Conference again this year.

Superintendent Mike Estes reported on efforts to repave an area on the east end of the athletic complex, while also noting that he and board members Lonnie Nedderman and John Auld had a chance to talk to State Senator Cliff Hite and State Representative Tony Burkley while attending this year’s Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference.

Estes also talked about a meeting he had with Lincolnview Superintendent Jeff Snyder and Van Wert County Sheriff Tom Riggenbach about increasing school building security, with additional staff inservices planned on that topic

In other action, the Crestview board:

  • Approved a senior government class trip to Chicago on March 10-11.
  • Accepted Tony Springer as a volunteer boys’ basketball coach.
  • Read for the first time a new board policy for appointing representatives to the Vantage Board of Education.
  • Named Dave Mosier of the Van Wert independent and Lindsay McCoy of The Times-Bulletin to the OSBA Media Honor Roll for their coverage of Crestview board issues.
  • Went into executive session to discuss personnel issues, with no action taken afterwards.

The next meeting of the Crestview Local Board of Education is scheduled for Monday, December 16, at 6 p.m., in the district boardroom.
