Woman killed in Walmart parking lot

An 84-year-old Van Wert woman was killed in a car-pedestrian accident in the parking lot of Walmart late this morning.

Janice Johnson was pronounced dead at Van Wert County Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

According to Van Wert police, Marcelene Price, 61, of rural Van Wert County, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in the Walmart parking lot at about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday and hit Johnson, who was in the main east-west drive in front of the store.

Police and a Van Wert Fire Department EMS squad were dispatched soon after and Johnson was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Price was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
