Marlins defeat Lima YMCA swim team

This past Saturday, the Van Wert Marlins swim team hosted the Lima Family YMCA team at the Van Wert YMCA.

In their first meet in over a month due to the holidays and snow cancellations, the Marlins edged the usually tough Lima team 254-250. Finishing first in all of their individual events were Erin Miller with five, Emma Pollock with five and Daniel Miller with three. Also scoring first place finishes were Luke Miller (2); Sam Houg (2); Ian Rex (2); Jayden Welker (1); Katie McVaigh (2) and Risa Pollock (1).

The Marlins also scored well in relay action. The 10 & under boys (Ian Rex, Jayden Welker, Daniel Miller, Luke Miller) and girls (Anna Wasson, Laney Hargett, Tyra McClain, Gracie Mull) 200-meter medley teams took 1^st place.

The 11-12 girls’ 200-medley team (Sophie Rutkowski, Emma Rutkowski, Delaney Keysor, Micah LaTurner) took first place as well, while the 8 & under 100-meter freestyle relay team (Karis Holloway, Lillie Mull, Emma Miller, Olivia Rutkowski) finished second.

The 10 & under girls’ 200-meter freestyle relay team (Laney Hargett, Anna Wasson, Gracie Mull, Tyra McClain) also took second place, while the 10 & under boys’ 200-meter freestyle relay team (Ian Rex, Sam Houg, Luke Miller, Jayden Welker) and 13-14 boys’ 200-meter freestyle relay team (Dylan Neate, Brendan Browning, Daniel Miller, Aaron Stant) both finished in first place.
