Marguerite B. Germann
Marguerite B. “Maggie” Germann, 82, of Vancrest Health Care Center, passed away surrounded by her family at 1:26 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born April 16, 1931, in Ohio City, the daughter of the late Kletus and Hulda (Merkle) Germann.
Maggie is survived by two brothers, Adolf “Joe” Germann of Van Wert and Henry “Hank” Germann of Delphos. Other survivors include nephews Phillip (Loretta) Germann of Ohio City, Neill (Angela) Germann of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Eric (Karen) Germann of Van Wert; nieces Nancy (Tim) Reier of Wapakoneta, Gayle (Brent) Harman of Van Wert, and Julie (Huy) Do of Dallas, Texas, along with 18 great-nephews and 17 great-nieces. Great-nephew Phillip “Andy” Germann, who she helped raise in infancy, held a special place in her heart.
Two sisters-in-law, Betty Germann and Cartha Germann, also preceded her in death.
Miss Germann was a graduate of Wren High School and Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was a secretary to the dean of students at Concordia Theological Seminary and also a part-time nurse in St. Louis, Mo. She then moved back to Ohio and was a nurse at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and the Veterans Administration hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, a lifetime church organist and a dedicated American Red Cross volunteer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, January 11, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church near Ohio City, with Pastor Timothy Sims officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Calling hours are from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to: American Red Cross, “Worship for Shut-Ins” or the Vancrest Health Care Center Activity Fund.
Arrangements were handled by Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert.
