YM Marlins place 1st at championships

FREMONT – This past weekend, the YMCA Van Wert Marlins brought home first place in Division 4 at the Northwest Ohio YMCA League Swim Championships held in Fremont.

The Marlins will send three swimmers on to the YMCA Great Lakes Regional Zones next weekend at Ohio State University.

Making the trip to Columbus will be Sam Easley (five events), Eric Easley (eight events) and Addison Henkaline (one event).

Although Eric Easley qualified in eight events, due to rules he will only be able to compete in six events. Sam Easley took first place in four events: 50 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke. Eric Easley took first in the 50 Breaststroke, 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke. Addison Henkaline took first place in the 50 Freestyle.

The YMCA Marlins will hold their winter season awards banquet on March 31.

• 8 & Under Girls: Emma Pollock – 4^th 100 IM; 5^th 50 Freestyle; 8^th 25 Butterfly; 11^th 25 Freestyle and 25 Backstroke.
• 8 & Under Boys: Daniel Miller – 8^th 100 IM and 6^th 25 Breaststroke. Andrew Henkaline – 6^th 25 Backstroke; 11^th 25 Freestyle; 12^th 50 Freestyle; 16^th 25 Butterfly.
• 9-10 Girls: Katie McVaigh – 10^th 100 Freestyle; 11^th 50 Butterfly; 12^th 200 Freestyle; 13^th 50 Freestyle and 14^th 50 Backstroke.  Addison Henkaline – 1^st 50 Freestyle; 3^rd in 100 IM, 50 Butterfly and 50 Backstroke; 5^th in 50 Breaststroke.
• 9-10 Boys: Aaron Stant – 4^th 50 Butterfly; 10^th 200 Freestyle; 11^th 50 Backstroke; 16^th 100 Freestyle. Robert Germann – 17^th 200 Freestyle.
• 11-12 Girls: Anna Henkaline – 17^th in 500 Freestyle.
• 11-12 Boys: Austin Lucas – 14^th 50 Breaststroke and 20^th 50 Freestyle. Sam Easley – 1^st 50 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke.
• 13-14 Girls: Hannah Stemen – 20^th 100 Backstroke; 24^th 200 Freestyle and 50 Freestyle; 36^th 100 Freestyle.  Paige Lucas – 17^th 100 Butterfly; 29^th 200 Freestyle and 35^th 50 Freestyle.
