Lady Lancers get win over St. John’s

Lincolnview girls’ basketball

The Lincolnview Lady Lancers outlasted Delphos St. John’s, winning 47-41 in a non-conference match-up Saturday at Lincolnview.

The Lancers took a 14-9 first-quarter lead and went up by seven points, 26-19, at the half. The Lady Blue Jays outscored Lincolnview 10-9 in the third quarter to cut the lead to six, but that’s as close as they could get, with both teams scoring 12 in the final quarter to maintain the six-point difference.

Ashton Bowersock led the Lancers with 12 points, while Hannah McCleery added 10 and Christine Stemen and Julia Thatcher scored 9 points apiece. St. John’s Jessica Geise led all scorers with 18 points on the night.

Lincolnview basically won the game from the free throw line, as the Lancers made 22 0f 30 free throws (73.3 percent) to ice the contest. Lincolnview was 12 of 30 (40 percent) from field goal range, while the Blue Jays hit 12 of 36 field goal attempts (33.3 percent). St. John’s was 17 of 27 from the line (63 percent).

Delphos had the edge in rebounding, 23-20, while the Jays also had fewer turnovers, 13-9, than Lincolnview.
