VWHS junior to sing in All-State Choir

James Defore has been selected to perform in Columbus on Saturday, February 8, as a member of the 2014 All-State Choir of the Ohio Music Education Association.

Defore, the son of Ron and Jean Defore, is a junior at Van Wert High School. He sings baritone in the choir and plays the trombone in the band.

Approximately 100 of the best high school vocalists from across Ohio will participate in the All State Choir, performing at the OMEA State Convention at the Columbus Convention Center.  The choir will be conducted by Karen Kennedy, who is director of choral studies at Miami University.

Defore’s prior musical achievements include being selected three times for the OMEA District III Honors Choir and receiving superior ratings at OMEA solo and ensemble contests. He is also member the Voices of Unity Youth Choir in Fort Wayne, Ind., and is also very active in his church music activities as a member of the choir, handbell choir and as accompanist for the children’s choir.

Defore also takes part in drama productions at Van Wert High School.
