Alvin Pancake
Alvin “Al” Pancake, 74, of Northville, Mich., and formerly of Van Wert, died at 3 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2014, in Northville.

He was born August 10, 1939, in Convoy, the son of the late Russel I. and Goldie Jewel Pancake. His wife, Marilyn (Schrodi) Pancake, survives him in Northville.
Other survivors include three children, Michael Pancake of Groveland, Fla., Carla Schrodi VanNocker of Northville, Mich., and Matthew K. (Lara) Schrodi of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a brother, Paul E. Pancake of Convoy; five grandchildren, Lauren (Erik) LaRoe, Morgan Schrodi and Logan Schrodi, all of Fort Wayne, Alex VanNocker and Sam VanNocker, both of Novi, Mich.; and six great-grandchildren, Evan Matthew LaRoe of Fort Wayne; Dennis (Gina) Pancake and Brenda (Ron) Allison, both of Convoy, and Brian (Kelly) Pancake, Wesley (Amber) Pancake and Laura (Ryan) Collins.
A sister, Vivian E. Davis, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Pancake was a 50-year employee of International Truck and Engine in Fort Wayne, and farmed for more than 30 years in Van Wert County. He attended Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert for many years and was currently a member of Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Northville, Mich. He also belonged to Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert.
A memorial service will be conducted in Van Wert at a later date.
