Marlins compete in Tiffin swimming meet

TIFFIN — This past Saturday, February 1, the YMCA Marlins traveled to Tiffin to compete in the Tiffin Community YMCA Invitational. The Invitational is the last large meet of the season and is highly competitive, with 14 YMCA teams and 252 athletes competing. The meet serves as an excellent challenge prior to YMCA sectionals.

Highlights for Van Wert were as follows: in 8 & Under Girls, Karis Holloway finished with a second in the 25-yard backstroke; in 8 & Under Boys, Luke Miller took second in the 50-yard freestyle; in 9-10 Girls and Boys, Emma Pollock finished second in the 100-yard individual medley and Ian Rex finished second in the 200-yard freestyle and teammate Jayden Welker took third; in 11-12 Girls, Risa Pollock took third in the 200-yard freestyle while teammate Katie McVaigh claimed third in the 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke.

9-10 Boys: Ian Rex – 2^nd 200 Free; 6^th 50 Back; 12^th 100 Free; 13^th 50 Free. Jayden Welker – 3^rd 200 Free; 10^th 50 Free; 11^th 100 Free. Daniel Miller – 4^th 50 Free; 5^th 50 Breast; 7^th 100 IM and 100 Free. Kaden Woolbright – 12^th 50 Fly; 14^th 100 Free and 50 Back; 18^th 50 Free.

11-12 Girls: Risa Pollock – 3^rd 200 Free; 9^th 100 Free and 50 Back; 13^th 50 Free. Katie McVaigh – 3^rd 100 Free and 50 Back; 4^th 50 Free; 5^th 100 IM.

13-14 Girls: Erin Miller – 8^th 200 Free; 12^th 100 Back; 14^th 50 Free and 100 Free.

13-14 Boys: Dylan Neate – 7^th 100 Breast; 6^th 200 IM; 21^st 100 Free; 23^rd 50 Free. Aaron Stant – 11^th 50 Fly; 12^th 100 Back; 15^th 200 Free; 23^rd 100 Free.

Next Saturday, the Marlins travel to Marion for a dual meet.
