Knights fall to Tigers in regional semis

ELIDA — The Crestview Knights couldn’t overcome the height of Holgate, losing 54-46 in a Division IV regional semifinal game that wasn’t all that close.
The Tigers’ twin 6-foot towers, Marissa Myles and Rachel Desgranges, did most of the offensive damage, with Myles scoring 18 points to lead both teams in scoring, while Desgranges added 16 points for Holgate. Mackenzie Riggenbach was Crestview’s top scorer, with 16 points, while Emily Bauer added 10 points for the Knights.
The game was close in the first quarter, with Crestview taking a two-point lead, 16-14, at the end of the period. But disaster struck in the middle two quarters, as Holgate outscored the Knights 26-12 to go up by 12, 40-28, at the three-quarter mark. It was 26-22 at the half, with the Tigers in front.
Holgate was up as much as 19 points in the game when the Knights went on an 11-1 run to make the score respectable at the end.
Crestview ends its season at 23-2, while the Tigers (20-4) will play Carey Saturday in the regional finals.
The Knights were 16 of 39 from the field (41 percent), while Holgate made 18 of 37 field goal attempts (48.6 percent). Crestview was 11 of 14 from the line (78.6 percent), while the Tigers made 16 of 24 free throw attempts (66.7 percent), including 10 of 15 in the fourth quarter alone.
Both teams had 23 rebounds, while the Knights lost the ball 11 times, compared to 10 for Holgate.
