Patrol handles injury crash on US 224

Ohio State Highway Patrol information

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating an injury crash that occurred at 2:31 p.m. Friday on U.S. 224, near the intersection of Van Wert-Decatur Road west of Van Wert.

According to investigating troopers, a 2009 Honda Accord driven by David D. Rump, 50, of Lewistown, was osplogowestbound on U.S. 224 when he attempted to turn left onto Van Wert-Decatur Road and into the path of an eastbound 2005 Jeep Laredo, driven by Corrie A. Sacket, 32, of Bluffton, Ind.

The Honda became disabled in the middle of U.S. 224 and the Jeep came to rest off the north side of the roadway.

Rump, who was wearing his seatbelt and also had front and side airbag deployment that minimized injuries, was transported to the Van Wert County Hospital for treatment of minor injury.

Sacket and two minor children were also transported to the Van Wert County Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Both Sacket and a 9-year-old child were wearing  seat belts, while a 4-year-old child was properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.

Assisting at the scene were the Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio City Volunteer Fire Department, Brickner Ambulance Service, Knippen’s Towing, and Straightline Auto Body.
