CAUV tax valuation meeting announced
Submitted information
Area farmers wanting to learn why their property tax valuations have increased over the past several years can do so at a meeting being held in St. Marys on Thursday, April 10.
During the last few years, the Ohio Department of Taxation has revamped the various formulas used for valuing agricultural land that is enrolled in the Current Agricultural Use Value (CAUV) program. As a result, taxable values have increased for the majority of soils enrolled in the CAUV program.
The April 10 meeting focuses on the effects that the state’s updated agricultural land valuation formula will have on individual farmers’ agricultural land’s taxable value, and therefore, on their property tax bill.
Featured speakers include Richard H. Hoffman, ASA, MAI, CAE, CRE, of Appraisal Research Corporation; and Rick Hoffman of Local Government Services, who will speak on how the state has reformatted and updated the income and expense data used for calculating CAUV land values, and also the property appraisal process.
The meeting, sponsored by Van Wert County Auditor Nancy Dixon, Auglaize County Auditor Janet Schuler and Mercer County Auditor Randy Grapner, will run from 7-9 p.m. April 10 at St. Marys Memorial High School, 2250 State Route 66-North in St. Marys.
