Crestview extends school day half-hour

Beginning Monday, March 28, and extending through Friday, April 29, Crestview Local Schools will be extending the length of each school day by a half-hour. Consequently, students will be dismissed during these days at 3:30 p.m. This measure is being taken to make up two of the 10 calamity days that the district has missed.

It takes 5½ hours to make up one day; therefore, it was decided to add two buffer days to this schedule in case of any cancellations or delays between now and the last of these dates.

“We hope this causes no great inconvenience to our parents, but we believe this course of action will be better for our students,” said Crestview Superintendent Mike Estes. “With achievement tests beginning Wednesday, April 27, we plan to use the extra contact time with teachers to work on content and test taking skills.”

By taking this action, the last school day for students will currently be Monday, June 13. However, the Ohio General Assembly could possibly pass House Bill 36, which would give districts two additional calamity days. Should this measure pass, the last day for students would be Thursday, June 9.
