VWMS ‘School to Watch’ for 9th year

For the ninth year in a row, Van Wert Middle School has been recognized by the Ohio Schools to Watch “Reaching for the Stars” and the National Schools to Watch programs. VWMS is only one of 19 middle schools in Ohio to achieve this prestigious recognition.

The Ohio Schools to Watch program identifies high-performing, middle grades schools that are academically excellent, developmentally responsive and socially equitable. Schools must complete an extensive application and meet Adequate Yearly Progress. Selected schools are then visited by a team of trained evaluators.

“Congratulations to staff and leadership for being re-designated as both an Ohio School to Watch and a National School to Watch,” said Dan Stacy, consultant for the Ohio Department of Education. “This redesignation of Van Wert Middle School recognizes the continued dedication of your staff and leadership. This designation is a reflection of Van Wert Middle School staff’s leadership providing students with the best education possible.”

The school will be formally recognized during the 2014 Ohio Middle School Association’s annual state conference, the Ohio State Board of Education May meeting and the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform at the National Schools to Watch conference, which will be held June 25-28 in Washington, D.C.
