Commissioners unveil new logo design

Van Wert County is seeking a new identity and a new county logo unveiled this week is just part of the process, county officials say.
The new logo, developed by local designer Ty Coil, shows a multi-colored Ohio in the background in blue, red and gold, with Van Wert County superimposed in gray on top. The colorful logo incorporates the colors of the three county school districts, while also providing a more comprehensive branding for the county, Coil said during a presentation of the logo to county department heads this past week.
County Economic Development Director Sarah Smith was excited about the new logo, noting her belief that it provides a more modern look over the older “Welcome Home” logo now being used.
Coil also designed a black version of the logo for use when color is not a viable option. The logo can also be customized for county departments and agencies, municipalities and townships.
Department heads also got a chance to view a mock-up of the county’s new website, although Smith was quick to note that the website is not finalized as yet.
The latest mockup – the third developed so far as part of the project – shows the new county logo over what would be a slide show showing scenes in various parts of the county, while two wind turbines are shown in the background.
The new website would offer a more modern look for the county, while also providing a place to find information about the county.
One feature Smith was excited about was a “How Do I?” section where county departments would provide FAQs explaining how to complete various county forms and other procedures needed by county residents.
Smith has noted that she hopes the new website can be completed as soon as possible, and urged department heads who are on the current county website to provide information they feel should be placed on their areas of the site.
