House fire

A fire heavily damaged a residence at 211 S. Harrison St. on Saturday, but, fortunately, no one was home at the time. In addition to Van Wert, several other departments assisted in fighting the fire, including Middle Point, Ohio City and Convoy, while Delphos firefighters were at the fire station to take any additional calls. The fire was called in at 4:55 p.m. Saturday and the last fire unit left the scene at 9:06 that night. The Van Wert Chapter of the American Red Cross was also at the scene, while Van Wert police were in charge of traffic control. (Dave Mosier/Van Wert independent)
