Pair get prison sentences in CP Court

Two men were sent to prison and three other people changed their pleas during hearings held Wednesday in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.

Dirk Russell, 34, of Van Wert, was sentenced to 36 months in prison on a charge of attempting to corrupt another with drugs, a felony of the third degree. Judge Charles D. Steele gave Russell credit for 128 days already served while awaiting final disposition of his case.

Lyle Diltz, 48, of Delphos, was given nine months in prison on a charge of trafficking in heroin, a felony of the fifth degree. Diltz was given credit for three days already served.

Those entering plea changes on Wednesday include the following:

Daniel Burke, 39, of Reynoldsburg, changed his plea to guilty to a charge of burglary, a felony of the second degree. Judge Steele ordered a presentence investigation in the case and scheduled sentencing for 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 11.

Kyle Goodwin, 25, of Van Wert, changed his pleas to charges filed in three separate cases. In the first case, he entered a guilty plea to a charge of theft, a fifth-degree felony, with a second theft count dismissed in exchange for his plea. In the second case, he entered a guilty plea to a charge of possession of drugs, a fourth-degree felony, while in the third case, he pleaded guilty to one count each of trafficking in drugs, and complicity to trafficking in counterfeit drugs, both felonies of the fifth degree.

Three additional counts were dismissed in exchange for the guilty pleas.

A presentence investigation was ordered and Goodwin will appear for sentencing at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 25.

Allyson Brown, 21, of Van Wert, entered guilty pleas to one count each of breaking and entering and possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felony offenses. The drug count also included a specification that she used a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer in commission of the crime. After entering the plea, Brown requested, and was granted, treatment in lieu of conviction. Her case was stayed until she successfully completes a substance abuse treatment program.
