2014 Lambert Days has plenty to offer

OHIO CITY — The annual Lambert Days celebration is this coming weekend, as the village of Ohio City honors John Lambert, the first American to successfully develop a gasoline-powered automobile in 1891. The Lambert Days Pageant kicks off the festival, starting at 7 p.m. this coming Thursday, July 17, and is open to the public. Local young women compete for the queen and princess titles and there will be cake donated by L & S House of Pastries available after the pageant.

Friday begins with a flea market/vendor show that begins at 9 a.m. and continues throughout the weekend. Community garage sales will also be starting in the morning, while a steak dinner will be available at 4 p.m. Friday, with a flag raising ceremony by Harvey Lewis American Legion Post 346 at 5 that evening.

Kids’ games will also begin at 5 p.m. Friday, with a $3 entry fee for the duration of the night, and at 5:30 the Wiffleball homerun derby starts. A Texas Hold ‘Em tournament will begin at 7 Friday evening and Monte Carlo Night at 8 p.m. Friday.

Henry “Pit Bull” Rife will start his ATV stunt show at 9 p.m. Friday, along with rock band Endever at the tent. ID bracelets are available. The best fireworks display in the area starts at 10:15 Friday evening. Sponsors of the fireworks include Lee Kinstle GM Sales & Service, Mercer Landmark Inc., the Ohio City Express, Jim Ash, BHS Gun Shop, the Village of Ohio City and individual donations from area residents.

Saturday brings men’s slow-pitch softball at 8 a.m. and coed volleyball at 9 Saturday morning. The flea market and vendor show returns at 9 a.m. Saturday and the Wiffleball tournament starts at 10 Saturday morning. The kids’ games open at 11 a.m. Saturday, with a entry fee of $5 for the day. Cornhole and 3-on-3 basketball starts at 1 p.m., with registration beginning an hour before.

The hog roast dinner is available at 4 p.m. Saturday, with music provided by “SaMax”. Bingo will start at 5 Saturday afternoon, while the Country band Sean Wise and the Bad Attitude Band will close the night starting at 9 p.m. ID bracelets are available.

The John W. Lambert Car Show registration starts at 10 a.m. Sunday, along with the flea market and vendor show.  A chicken dinner will be available starting at 11 Sunday morning, with dinner music being provided by Triad. The car show starts at noon, along with kids’ games that have a $3 fee for all day play. What promises to be the biggest parade in the area, the 46th annual Lambert Days Parade, begins at 3 p.m. Sunday.
