Cougar golfers down Bryan in dual match

The Van Wert Cougar golf team improved 15 strokes from its initial outing of the year to defeat Bryan by 17 strokes, 180-197, in a non-league dual match.

Brandon Hernandez was match medalist with a nine-hole score of 40, while Jared Hernandez was close behind with a 41. Other Van Wert golf scores are as follows: Daniel Magowan, 45; Carter Eikenbary, 54; Gabe Rollins, 58; and Jacob Covey, 63.

Two junior varsity golfers, Colton Deschmer (53) and Tim Mankey (52) also competed against the Golden Bear JVs and showed great promise, Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood said.

The Cougar varsity will return to action on Monday at the Defiance Invitational Tournament.
