David L. Brake

David L. Brake, 50, of rural Van Wert, died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014, at his residence.

He was born July 28, 1964, in Van Wert, the son of the late Virginia Jean (May) Brake. On September 9, 1989, he married Traci L. (Kelly) Brake, who survives at home.

Other survivors include a son, Jacob L. Brake, at home; one daughter, Chloe L. Brake, at home; four brothers, George (Kathy) Brake of Ohio City, Greg (Kim) Brake of Atlanta, Georgia, Larry P. Banta of Van Wert and Mark A. (Renee) Banta of Monroe, Michigan; a sister, Kathy S. Banta of Van Wert; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brake was the owner of Interior Updates Construction & Modeling in Van Wert and worked for various construction projects in the area. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, and was a 1983 graduate of Van Wert High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his children, and gardening.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 22, at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Gus Christo-Baker officiating. Burial will be in Venedocia Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, August 21, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Friday at the church.
