‘Love for Locke’ benefit planned in OC

OHIO CITY — A “Love for Locke” benefit will be held on Saturday, September 20, at Fireman’s Park in Ohio City. Donations for the event are appreciated and can be dropped off at the building at Fireman’s Park from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, or from 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 19.
Locke, the son of Josh and Shannon (Haas) Maxey of Van Wert, was diagnosed with Trisomy 13, a rare condition in which an extra 13th chromosome is present. This condition causes birth defects and problems with vital organs. Locke’s mother has written about the family’s journey on her blog at www.prettyplainjanes.com under “Baby Maxey” updates. All proceeds from the event will go to Josh and Shannon Maxey to help defer medical expenses.
Numerous activities and events are planned, including a 5K run/walk at 9 a.m., with registration taking place at 8 that morning. There is a $10 entry fee, and participants will be entered into 5K drawings.

A motorcycle poker run will begin at 11 a.m., with registration at 10 a.m. Cost is $10 for one rider and $15 for two riders. Best poker hand wins. A poker run 50/50 will be held and all participants will be entered to win door prizes.

Recreational volleyball and kickball begin at 10 a.m. and pre-registration is preferred. Cost is $60 per team for each event.

A double-elimination cornhole tournament will begin at 1 p.m. Cost is $20 per team.

Also during the day, there will be live music featuring Cameron Jones, FricShan Band and Double Kik.
There will also be kids’ events, a gun raffle, t-shirts, a 50/50, door prizes, concessions and much more.
