Mary Ellen Couts

Mary Ellen Couts of Ohio City died at 4:20 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born July 14, 1921, in Liberty Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Clarence Homer and Maude T. (Hoffman) Putman. On August 15, 1942, she married Clarence Beers Couts Jr., who preceded her in death on September 24, 2005.

Survivors include a son, Jed (Rosie) Couts of Ohio City; one sister, Jane Summersett of Berne, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Elenor Putman of Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Penny Sue Murphy; and a grandson, Christopher Jon Murphy, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, April 4, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Denise Brown officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Calling hours are from 1-4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a Rockford Eagles Auxiliary memorial service during visiting hours.
