DARE team announces golf outing date

The Van Wert City/County DARE team has scheduled its 16th annual DARE golf outing.  The tournament will be held at Hickory Sticks Golf Club in Van Wert on Saturday, May 14, at 9 a.m.  In case of rain, the tournament will be held Sunday, May 22, at 9 a.m.  The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 62 will be sponsoring the outing again this year.

All proceeds from the tournament goes to youths of the community by helping to fund their DARE schooling on the hazardous effects of violence, drugs, and alcohol. DARE also teaches youngsters important family values and other important items that children will need throughout their lives.

DARE is a self funded program so it’s fundraisers like the golf outing that provides the money needed to maintain the program.  Hole sponsorships are still available at a cost of $100. Sponsors’ names will be put on a sign and posted at one of the holes on the course showing everyone that they support DARE.  Team rosters are available at Hickory Sticks Golf Club or by contacting Officer Greg Blackmore at 419.238.2462 or Deputy Keith Allen at 419.238.3866.

This is the 11th year that Young’s Waste Service will be sponsoring the $10,000 hole-in-one contest on Hole 4 and three other bonus prizes for the other par 3 holes on the course. This is a huge success every year. Young’s Waste Service has been supporting the DARE program since the business opened 16 years ago.  Owners Richard Riley, Rich Riley and Steve Hall were asked recently why they continue to help the DARE program and they said they all have family members that, in one way or another, have been touched by the DARE program and they feel it does help local youths.
