Donald A. Smith

Donald A. Smith, 80, of Van Wert, died at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

He was born February 3, 1931, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Homer A. and Ruth (Greenawalt) Smith. On April 7, 1953, in Fairbanks, Alaska, he married Wauneta A. (Weldy) Smith, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include three brothers, Robert (Connie) Smith and Dean (Pat) Smith, both of Convoy, and Dale Smith of Van Wert; and many nephews and nieces.

Three brothers, Richard, Fred and Kenneth Smith, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Steve Savage officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign War Post 5803 in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials: Trinity Friends Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of donor’s choice.
