Marshmallows and Marine
by Nancy Replogle
Private John Martens, a member of the United States Marines, visited the

second grade classroom at St. Mary of the Assumption School to share some of
his experiences. Private Martens, stationed in Afghanistan and home on
furlough, is a cousin to James Hagaman.
What could be more fun than graphing marshmallows? Why, eating them,of course!
Recently the second graders were given a bag of colored marshmallows. The

students had to first sort the marshmallows by color and then record the
number of each color they received. They took the information and preceded to
made a graph of the number of the different colors. After printing the graph,
the students were allowed to eat their marshmallows. They were sure yummy!
