Rovena R. Wienken

Rovena R. Wienken, 91, of Van Wert, died at 12:29 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

She was born December 18, 1923, in Landeck, the daughter of William and Anna (Grothaus) Schwinnen, who both preceded her in death. On June 7, 1947, she married Leon J. Wienken, who survives in Van Wert.

Also surviving is two sons, Hubert (Karen) Wienken of Lima and Carl (Teresa) Wienken of Venedocia; three daughters, Sister Rita Wienken, OSF/T, of Tiffin, and Mary Wienken of Van Wert; Joan (David) Wise of Van Wert; four grandchildren, Paul Wienken, Dawn (Ed) Leonard, Amanda (Ken) Greenwood and Joseph Wienken; three great-grandchildren, Eddie, Charlie and Jack Leonard; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Schwinnen.

A daughter, Ruth (Wienken) Bailey; and one son-in-law, Charles Bailey, also preceded her in death.

Rovena was a homemaker who helped with chores in their farm and raised the children. She is a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and the Altar & Rosary Society of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Landeck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery in Landeck following a luncheon for family and friends after the service at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 4, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where a Rosary service will be held at 7:30 that evening, and also an hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Preferred memorials: St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church or a charity of donor’s choice.
