DELPHOS — The Delphos Police Department and the Allen County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred New Year’s Day.
Officers from both departments received information at 9:47 p.m. that day reporting that a stabbing had occurred, but details were vague on where the stabbing had occurred.
The victim, who had been stabbed in the face, had attempted to drive himself to the hospital, but later decided to pull over near the intersection of Ohio 309 and U.S. 30 and call for assistance. After investigating, officers learned the actual stabbing had occurred at the Deercreek Apartment Complex on Lima Avenue in Delphos, near the 1070 building in the complex.
According to reports, a 23-year-old man had been at the apartment complex when his estranged fiancee, who was 22, and her 21-year-old male companion, also arrived at the complex. The parties then had a verbal argument that then turned physical, with the 23-year-old stabbing the 21-year-old man in the face with a large “deck” type screw. The screw remained embedded in the victim’s face until removed by medical staff at the hospital.
The man who stabbed the victim claimed he was being assaulted and that he was acting in self-defense when he stabbed the other man.
The victim’s injuries were not life threatening and he was expected to be released from the hospital on Friday.
The incident remains under investigation at this time and will be reviewed by prosecutors for the possible filing of charges.
