Marlins do well at Marion swim tourney

MARION — This past Saturday, eight members of the Van Wert Marlins swim team traveled to Marion to compete in the Warren Foster Memorial Pentathlon.  In the meet, all swimmers compete in the same five events and their times are combined to determine an overall individual finish.

Girls 8 and Under, Rory Youngpeter finished 15th overall with a 13th place in 100 IM; 15th place finish in the 25 butterfly and 25 backstroke and was 17th in 25 freestyle.

In 9-10 Girls, Gracie Mull finished 22nd overall and was 19th in the 50 freestyle; 25th in the 50 butterfly; 22nd in the 50 backstroke; 31st in the 50 breaststroke and 23rd in the 100 IM. Jayden Welker, 9-10 Boys, finished ninth overall, with a seventh place finish in the 50 backstroke; eighth in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly; ninth in 100 IM and 14th in the 50 breaststroke.

In 11-12 Girls, Emma Pollock finished sixth overall and Jamie Burenga finished 10th overall. Pollock finished seventh in the 50 butterfly; eighth in the 100 IM; 10th in the 50 freestyle; 13th in the 50 breaststroke and 15th in the 50 backstroke. Burenga was fourth in the 50 backstroke; sixth in the 50 freestyle; 12th in the 50 breaststroke; 13th in the 50 butterfly and 14th in the 100 IM.

In the 11-12 boys, Ian Rex finished 17th overall with a 13th in the 50 backstroke; 14th in the 50 freestyle and 50 Fly; 17th in the 100 IM and 21st in the 50 breaststroke.

In 13-14 Girls, Katie McVaigh finished eighth overall while Risa Pollock finished ninth.  McVaigh was sixth in the 100 backstroke; seventh in the 100 butterfly; eighth in the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 IM.  Pollock was seventh in the 100 breaststroke; eighth in the 100 backstroke; and ninth in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 IM.
